Welcome to La Gelatessa - Gelato & Coffee

38 Nithsdale Rd, Glasgow G41 2AN, United Kingdom

General Info

Tucked away in the southside of Glasgow, La Gelatessa - Gelato & Coffee feels like one of those spots you stumble upon once-and then keep coming back to. It’s a cozy ice cream shop with a relaxed, casual vibe, and from the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels welcoming and easygoing.

What really stands out here is the menu. It’s not just your typical gelato counter. Sure, the classics are there, but the creative twists are what make this place memorable. The Mango Lassi Ice Cream, for instance, is bright, refreshing, and perfectly balanced-not too sweet, not too tangy. It’s one of those flavors that lingers in your memory long after the last spoonful.

Then there’s the hot chocolate selection, which honestly deserves its own spotlight. On a chilly Glasgow afternoon, ordering a Hot Chocolate with Marshmallow just hits differently. It’s rich, smooth, and comforting. If you’re feeling a bit adventurous, the Brown Butter Infused White Hot Chocolate with Toasted Marshmallow Fluff takes things up a notch. It’s indulgent, slightly nutty, and feels like a dessert and drink rolled into one.

Beyond the food, the service here is refreshingly straightforward. Whether you’re popping in for a quick treat or staying a while, the onsite services are efficient and friendly. Delivery is also available, which is a lifesaver when you’re craving something sweet but don’t want to leave home. The space itself is clean and well-kept, with a restroom available, making it convenient for longer visits.

Another thing worth noting is the inclusive, LGBTQ+ friendly environment. It adds to the overall comfort of the place-everyone feels welcome, and that’s reflected in the mix of people you see inside. It’s the kind of location where friends meet, families stop by after dinner, and solo visitors can just sit and enjoy a quiet moment with a cup of something warm.

From a reviewer’s perspective, this is one of those rare spots where the experience matches the buzz. Reviews often highlight the unique flavors and the comforting drinks, and after visiting, it’s easy to see why. The combination of thoughtful menu choices, relaxed setting, and reliable service makes La Gelatessa a standout among Glasgow’s dessert spots.

What customers say?

“ Last week brought some sunshine – unlike the Easter weekend – so I took that as a sign to treat myself to a scoop (or two) from Lag Gelatessa. Two scoops, £4.95: • Waffle Party – cinnamon butter gelato, blueberry ripple & waffle chunks • Almond, coconut & white chocolate Waffle Party was the standout – loved the cinnamon warmth with sweet blueberry and proper chunks of waffle. The almond, coconut & white choc was super creamy and rich, with the white chocolate more like a sauce running through it. Both were great on their own and even better together. Loved the inventive flavours – they’ve got a few classics, but most are ones you don’t usually see. I’m a Loop & Scoop fan, but this place is serious competition. “ My girlfriend and I took a trip to Glasgow this weekend and what can I say, we stumbled across this Gelato shop because she had a craving for a hot chocolate. We’d somewhat call ourselves hot chocolate connoisseurs but we well and truly had a socks blown off by how tasty, flavourful and thankfully HOT, the dark hot chocolate was. Of course we got the toasted fluff that was a perfect addition and didn’t overpower our tastebuds with sweetness. We sat in and the decor was cute and thoughtful. After we’d collected ourselves after our mind blowing hot chocolate we went back for the ice cream… My girlfriends lactose intolerant and thankfully they had vegan options, we got a litre tub of the salted chocolate orange and dark chocolate and cherry. We whisked ourselves home and “hmmm’d” and “ahhhh’d” after every spoonful. We’ll definitely be back for more yummy ice cream! Enjoy this windswept picture of my girlfriend who is beyond happy after her second hot chocolate. ”

“ Best ice-cream I’ve ever had!! Unique flavours and generous scoops. Had the honey salted pistachio - unreal. ”

“ The raspberry and rose cream was one of the best icecreams I've ever eaten and so creamy I literally triple checked it was vegan. So good I still enjoyed it after doing the entire Glasgow Icecream passport in one afternoon. ”

“ Wow. What a find in Glasgow. If I'm going to be honest, I had planned to go Loop & Scoop, but due to traffic, I wasn't able to, so went here instead. Absolutely amazing. The flavour, taste, texture, and impeccable service. There was also a queue, which I understood why after tasting. Amongst the best ice cream I've ever had. Will definitely return next time I visit Glasgow. ”
